Lance McCullough

Lance McCullough has had a passion for health and fitness training since high school. His experience with weight training as part of football practice helped Lance realize how training could enhance sports performance.

Following high school, Lance continued weight training, adding more dedication to his hard work. The result was rising to compete nationally and internationally as a weight lifter. In 1998 Lance won the Amateur Athletic Union World Bench Press Championship, and set a new world record. During his years of training for competition, Lance developed a system of using resistance weight training to achieve health and fitness goals. This led to a career in gym-based personal training – first as a gym manager, and then as owner of Fitness Results.

Lance has worked in the fitness industry for over 30 years and has been a certified personal trainer by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) since 1989. In addition to his personal training clientele, he employs other personal trainers who have completed the Fitness Results internship program run in conjunction with a local community college.

Lance serves as a consultant to private businesses wishing to develop fitness programs for their employees, and is a corporate speaker on health and fitness. He created the Fitness Results Training Guide, a step-by-step method to track and achieve training goals.

Recently Lance has shared his methods of health and fitness training with college interns and has written two books: Fitness Results Training Book and 30-Minute Body. He developed the Fitness Results Training System as an adjunct to his books, enabling those who can’t train at the Fitness Results gym to use his methods.

Lance enjoys spending time with his wife Susie doing outdoor activities of hiking, mountain bike riding and kayaking on the weekends. His personal belief is that exercise is the closest thing to discovering the fountain of youth, so he and Susie stay very active. Lance remains committed to having a positive impact on the health and fitness of others.

The Inspiration

BEHIND THE SCENES FOR 30 MINUTE BODY

I was inspired to write this book because of my desire to provide useful, accurate information about weight and cardio training, diet and nutrition that would change people’s lives for the better. The information is drawn from my years of teaching personal training clients how to achieve their health and fitness goals and watching their results.

The obesity and diabetes crises in this country are proof that the health and fitness industry is not doing its job to educate the public about important health topics. Instead of honestly discussing the basics of a safe, efficient and effective program, the health and fitness industry promises a “magic pill” or offers an unsustainable fad. While this approach sells products and pills, it does not change the course of the obesity and diabetes health problems, nor help reduce the cost of medical care.

To be fair, I don’t think the health and fitness industry is doing this intentionally. Instead, I see a lack of old-fashioned common sense, too much follow-the-leader, and not enough asking why. Here’s an example: using Body Mass Index (BMI) – the ratio of weight to height – to determine healthy body weight for individuals. BMI was originally developed in 1832 for use on large populations, and not for determining obesity. BMI was developed before there were calculators, computers or other electronic devices. BMI has an error rate of 15%. Yet no one today is asking why it is still being used when modern technology has enabled accurate calculation of percentage of body fat – the real measure of obesity.

My goal with this book is to change the way society views exercise – not as something that is very hard and time-consuming, but something that can produce huge positive changes in a person’s overall health, fitness, well-being and happiness. I have seen the positive impact that the information in the “30 Minute Body” can make. By presenting information in a fun and easy-to-understand way as I do with my personal training clients, I can help you learn how the body responds to proper exercise, diet and nutrition so you can make the right choices to realize your health and fitness goals. I don’t claim to have the answers to fix all health and fitness problems. But I do claim to provide simple, clear, easy-to-understand information that will help you make the right decisions about your personal health and fitness goals.
